Hi Sharon,
The process of purchasing a property in another country can at first appear daunting but with a little research the whole process can run very smoothly.
First of all, a lot of reviewing of properties within the general geographical area made things more simple when identifying those properties I wished to view further; but be aware of just how large a country France is. Perhaps it’s best to take a short vacation to interested areas, then prioritise where you want to live, before returning.
Immobliers may wish you to visit several properties and I suggest that you take full advantage of this as there are some properties that aren’t advertised.
Once your decision is made, the next stage is to make a formal offer. The housing report I got was extremely comprehensive and will help to convince you if the investment you are making needs further capital and the extent of any modernization.
Liaising with the Agent / Immobilier was all done by email and she was very diligent in her work and professionalism.
The transfer of funds abroad was my biggest worry, but I sourced a company specialising in this and received instant receipts for any transaction.
I’m happy to say that I now fully own a property in France and look forward to spending a significant amount of time there.
Kind regards,
Michael Butler.
